Why in the spring, when nature blooms, some of us become depressed?
Firstly, during the winter we are very tired: in our latitudes there is little sun, vitamins, we rarely go to fresh air. Secondly, it’s still far from summer vacation to start planning or even dreaming about it. Thirdly, spring, like autumn, is a time of change, and our psyche loves constancy. Everything new about her is alarming.
Therefore, if longing has piled on you, first of all think: maybe you need to rest? Leave for a week where there is a lot of sun and is already warm. Or go to someone for a winter cottage? Or just stay home – finish all your business in a leisurely mode, sleep longer, read a book, watch your favorite movie. Sometimes two days plus a weekend is enough to slow down the internal rhythm and just relax.
Often people say: “I do not have time for vacation now.” But if you get sick, then time will surely be found. Why bring yourself to this?
In general, in spring, depression worsens among those for whom it is a familiar background – both in summer and winter.
Are these people suffering from a chronic form of the disease?
No, this is most of us. Today, this state is becoming more and more the norm. Especially in large cities, where stress increases every day, where people often do not what they want. Where they see how others live, but understand that they have never reached this level.
I want to …
But this is a question. If you at least think about whether you really want all this, you will take the first step to overcoming depression. The fact is that they are inspiring us now: in order to be successful, successful, we must live like this, have this. Advertising and the media paint rainbow-colored pictures of happiness: a big beautiful house in nature, a good car, a husband receives a lot, his wife does not work, but she is so creative: arranges children’s parties, does charity work.
At least three children – they are well-groomed, polite, a little mischievous. In the evenings the whole family watches cartoons, everyone hugs, everyone loves each other. And difficulties, if any, only rally.
You look at such a picture, then at your life, and depression begins at any time of the year – not only in the spring.
And what to do?
For a start, it would be good to ask myself: do I personally need all this, am I ready to pull it? And is happiness only connected with this? But in another way, you can’t be happy somehow?
If a person has never lived in his own house, he does not imagine what expenses are there, how much attention is required: repair, cleaning, insect control. What problems arise due to the fact that the entire urban infrastructure – shops, clinics, schools, banks – is far away.
Live a week in a family with three children, and you will see that this is far from idyll: it is a disease, fear of losing a job, each child has its own difficulties, conflicts between brothers and sisters. Yes, all this can be successfully solved. But this is not the beautiful picture that the advertisement draws for us.
When you ask doctors how to deal with depression, you usually get a standard answer: a healthy lifestyle and antidepressants.
There are standard tools that, however, work. For example, some Western specialists do not undertake treatment for depression if a person does not spend 40 minutes a day on physical activity.
Every woman knows: if you wash your hair, you will feel better. A contrast shower will also give vigor. Travel to the sea. Try swimming every morning for 20 minutes or just hanging in the water. And after 10 days we’ll talk.
To all this, a person who is depressed will tell you: “Why? What’s the point of this?”
Indeed, the complexity of the disease is that a person does not want to do anything to get rid of it. He does not believe in healing. And there is only one way out – to do all this without faith. Just take these recommendations as a rule: the way it is! No reasoning!
And what else can help a person during depression?
Of course, art. Sad people help some people in this condition. Yes, it’s sad, comedies are just annoying. In them, a person sees that the world is beautiful, but does not exist for him. He lost touch with him. It’s the same as looking at delicious food at the window and not having the opportunity to try it. This sometimes causes fear and despair. Sad films, on the other hand, help a person survive some of his emotions, feelings and thus free himself from them.
Films that tell the story of overcoming, with a good or neutral ending, are great help. For example, a man lived, lived, then something happened to him, he thought and coped with troubles. These are films such as, for example, Forest Gump.
There are books that are useful to read in this condition.
And, of course, music is beautiful, better living, which resonates with the deepest layers of the soul. And here you have to choose exactly what touches you personally. The purpose of listening to such music is not to get aesthetic pleasure, but to awaken the natural forces of the body.
When you feel certain vibrations, the body begins to come to life. And at that moment, a person may begin to cry. It’s good. So, in this situation, you are “unfrozen”, and part of the grief comes out of you.
Believers, of course, find it easier to survive depression – they know that despondency is a serious sin. And if a person has a confessor, then you can tell him everything – and this will help. But even if you do not believe in God, it is good to visit the monasteries. Their atmosphere is soothing.
How to be friends of someone who is depressed – you have to invite him somewhere: to a concert, for a walk? Or is it better to leave alone?
You can invite, insist – not really. And besides – depending on where. If it’s a picnic in nature, then yes. If a disco in a night club – probably not. Better to avoid noisy places where you can’t talk.
But a good concert where a person will just sit, watch and listen, this is an ideal option. Music does not require tension, it itself establishes a connection and penetrates a person like air.
You can invite him to sporting events, such as biathlon, running or racing. Our bodies begin to resonate when we cheer for an athlete, we become infected with a thirst for victory, and his energy is transmitted to us.
